Base Assembly

The Base Assembly lays on the ground and is a square that is approximately 78" on each side. It is made from four Base Frame Pieces 78" long x 1 ½" square tubing (or 2" round pipe). The four sides of the square base frame are joined by four Base Plates.

  1. Lay the four sides of the base down in the form of a square on your shop floor with the corners just touching.
  2. Slide the Base Plates (dark gray) under the four corners of the square base frame lying on the floor. See Figure 1 The base plates can extend beyond the outside edge of the square base frame approximately 3/8" so you can skip weld both the outside and the inside edge of your tubing to the base plates.
  3. Square everything up and tack weld.

Rafter Assembly

The Rafter Assembly consists of two Rafters and a Rafter Tie Plate. Check the part list for sizes and shape for these pieces.

  1. Lay out the rafters on the floor. The peak should be approximately 24" high.
  2. Slide the rafter tie plate under the rafters at the peak. You should let it stick out enough so you can easily weld on both sides of the rafter. Do Not Weld Yet!
  3. Now go to your Base Assembly and measure the distance diagonally across the square from center of one base plate to the center of the diagonally opposite base plate. See Figure 2 This measurement will be the outside measurement of your rafter base line. See Figure 3
  4. Line your rafters up and tack weld them to the rafter tie plate.

The 1" hole in the Rafter Tie Plate is very sharp edged and will cut the Protector hanging rope in no time. We suggest using a clevis to put the rope through, giving the rope a smooth rounded surface for the rope to ride on, to avoid cut ropes and damaged Protectors.

Vertical Leg Assembly

The Vertical Leg Assembly will use the two Vertical Legs, the Base Assembly and the Rafter Assembly you just welded.

  1. Lay the Vertical Legs (check sizes with part list) up against the ends of your rafter assembly. See Figure 4
  2. Lay the Rafter to Vertical Leg Plates under the joints of the vertical legs and the rafter assembly. See Figure 4
  3. Measure the distance between the ends of the vertical legs. This should be the same distance as the measurement you took from the base plates in step 3 of the Rafter Assembly. See Figure 2
  4. Line everything up and tack weld the rafter assembly and the vertical legs to the Rafter to Vertical Leg Plates.

Two Plates and Final Assembly

  1. Stand the Rafter and Vertical Leg Assembly up on the base and IF it is correctly positioned lay the assembly down and weld it up tight.
  2. After the rafter and vertical leg assembly has cooled, stand it up on the base plates diagonally. Leaving enough room between the outside edge for the vertical legs and the point of the base plate for the Tow Plates.
  3. Tack weld the vertical legs to the base plates. Then weld the tow plates to the base plate and to the vertical legs. This is your brace for the vertical legs. You could add more bracing to the inside of the vertical legs.
  4. Check all your welds and you're done!
